I made my dress with 2 saris : 1 green silk blend sari for the underdress (chemise) and 1 red pure silk sari, embroided with tiny glass beads and gold and silver metallic thread. My inspiration is quite slavic/russian with a hint of middle eastern (and Catherine's outfit from Riven). Details : cloak [link] - dress border [link] - shoes [link]
My handsome husband is wearing a red linen undershirt, embroided by yours truly (but not seen on this picture). The tunic is olive green coton velvet & wool tweed (sleeves and lower part). The red parts are dupiony silk on which I sewed about 30 yards of ochre colored braid, in some sort of celtic pattern. The cut is mostly rus/viking with a more mongolian type of closure at the neckline (but the rus did something quite similar). The breeches are made of ochre linen blend fabric. The hat is made with boiled wool and recycled fur. See here for a detail of the tunic : [link] The amazing earrings I am wearing are made by SoMK (see my favorites) as well as our wedding bands, and the quality of her work make me speechless. She is a goddess. Visit her page ! [link] |

This site [[link] Has some info on runes and Nordic symbols, it may be interesting for you.
Your Viking club idea sounds interesting, I don't have much art or info to contribute to the subject but it would be great to see and I know there are some members on DA who are really into Viking art and it could turn out to be a great club.
