ah someone who knows the book of kells! (i study art history at the university of amsterdam and just had my medieval exam) Good to see someone making art from it, it's so beautifull! :D and so typical celtic, and your work is very beautifully done!

oh, and this type of shading is more from gothic style illumination, but I like it ! And of course, the book of kells does not have gold in it, but gold is pretty !

They used orpirment. I have some concentrated saffron dye I made I can use for a golden look. Love the look of what you have here.

We will work on illuminations at the gallery, during the expo, so I will learn a lot ! Can't wait to try ammoniac gum for gold laying !

thank you. It is hard to scan so it looks right though. And even though there is no gold leaf in the book of Kells, I have put some cause its pretty !

I am not sure... 5-6 hours maybe ? and a great deal of stopping breathing to get lines fine and neat..
